Himachal Pradesh successfully hosted the 2020 chapter of the National Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding Championship. The championship was originally planned for the month of January but was postponed after inadequate snowfall. Over the course of two days, the event then dated itself February 2nd and 3rd respectively.

BJP leader Dhaneshwari Thakur inaugurated the Championship in the presence of other officials. It was organised by the Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association (HPWGA) in the Solang Valley in Manali. Agenda of the National Alpine championship was to provide sportspersons with a platform as well as promote winter tourism in Manali. The event was arranged according to the guidelines of the Indian Olympics Association (IOA).

“IOA will appoint technical delegate and observers. We have to report to the IOA every activity of the event,” said Roopu Negi, secretary-general of Ski and Snowboard India. Events were previously organized at capacity. It is the first time that the Association received not just technical but also, financial aid from the government. “We shall not let down the winter games lovers,” Negi added.
The championship saw participation from around 11 national teams. Himachal, J&K, Uttarakhand, Delhi, ITBP, Indian Army and multiple clubs thronged as well for the National Alpine. The organizers further received entries from individual athletes. It was said that the top athletes will qualify for national-level championships

With three feet of snow, nearly 200 athletes gathered in Solang amid snowfall. “Races in cross-country, cross-country sprint, slalom, and giant slalom are being conducted in both male and female categories.” HPWGA president Ludar Chand Thakur said. “Athletes in both junior and senior categories are performing well. As not all athletes can represent the state in national cup, we are choosing the best. Next time we are looking to host the national cup.”
